They say that to be the best, you have to learn from the best. And Como Cocoa Island wants to help you do just that.
The luxurious private island resort, located in the heart of the Maldives, has just launched a new kitesurfing retreat hosted by two-time world champion Youri Zoon. For a week, kitesurfing enthusiasts will be able to improve their skills and improve their technique in the crystal clear waters of the Indian Ocean.
Passionate about kitesurfing since the age of 13, Zoon won the European Junior Championships and the Dutch National Championships after only one year of practice. He then won the world title in 2011 and 2012. After fifteen years of competition, the Dutchman has now focused on helping budding kitesurfers become the best.
Zoon’s advanced course in Como includes two lessons per day, covering everything from speed pick-up and tricks to extending airtime above the waves. Surfers will also have the opportunity to join the champion for an intimate conversation in which he will discuss his passion for the sport and the various challenges he has encountered.
When it’s time to take a break from kitesurfing, guests can head to Como Shambhala Retreat. This wellness center offers yoga classes, massages, facials, hydrotherapy and reflexology, in short everything you need to refresh a tired body. The resort’s holistic approach to wellness (a key part of the Como brand) even extends to the signature restaurant, which offers a range of nutritional dishes available to boost energy and aid concentration. Think freshly caught seafood combined with nutritious local produce.
Suffice it to say, you’ll sleep well too. The airy villas on stilts, inspired by Maldivian tradition dhoni (fishing boats), allow guests to become one with the crystal clear ocean. You can slip right into the water from the private deck or enjoy epic skyline views through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Who knows, you might even spot a few kitesurfing friends.
Taking place from May 30 to June 4, Kitesurfing with Youri Zoon starts at $8,239 per person (single occupancy). This includes five nights (half board), twice-daily classes, access to Como Conversation, daily yoga classes (excluding Fridays), and round-trip speedboat transfers.
