The latest announcements for Hurricane Ian are of concern to Florida residents as the near Cat 5 hurricane’s eyewall continues to see its dangerous winds strengthen while weaving their way into the Gulf.
The National Weather Service in Tampa issued an “extreme wind warning” for much of Charlotte County, including Cape Coral, Estero, Bonita Springs and Sanibel until 12:45 a.m.
The warning reads as follows:
“Treat these impending extreme winds as if an approaching tornado and immediately move to an inside room or shelter NOW!”
Although alarming, the published information hasn’t stopped this Florida man from getting his wakeboarding fix.
The daredevil adventurer was seen surfing the flooded streets of Marathon, Florida, pulled by a submerged van. Some spectators applauded the man and a passerby filmed the whole thing on video:
As a surfer myself, I can see how fun the experience could have been, but the seriousness of the current situation should not be underestimated.
After an overnight tornado touched down in Pembroke Pines at North Perry Airport, dangerous winds toppled several planes and left many wondering about the storm’s possible impacts.
At least two people have already died in Cuba and millions are without electricity.
It’s the second major hurricane of the 2022 season, and probably a better time to choose activities like playing dominoes indoors.
Stay safe, y’all.
Oh, and be on the lookout for Lane Pittman… he might be about to send Hurricane Ian into the pits of hell.
