Thanks to a blustery afternoon of constant winds on Wednesday and a lot of endurance, three young kitesurfers who took part in the âKite for COVIDâ challenge only a week ago, reached the goal of 22 miles. they had settled down.
The event was created to support the Acts of Random Kindness charity.
As of that same night, ARK had already received nearly US $ 36,000 in donations and more money was still coming. Considering the fact that the initial goal was $ 10,000, it is safe to say that the amount received exceeded expectations.
Jake Fagan, 12, Ben Coak, 11, and Zach Brooks, 12, all left for the waters off South Sound at 2 p.m. The boys moved back and forth from the coast to the reef, using GPS technology to track the number of miles they traveled. The 22 mile target was chosen because that is the length of Grand Cayman.
At 4:13 pm, Fagan finished first, followed by Coak and then Brooks. Fagan told the Cayman Compass afterwards, while his body was beaten, he was satisfied with the overall experience.
“It was a bit gusty, so it made it a bit more difficult, but I couldn’t [have asked] for better conditions, âsaid Fagan. “We went straight there and back, [and repeated].
âThere weren’t too many waves so it was pretty good, but the hardest part was my ankles because standing all the time was very difficult; so that was probably the hardest thing.
All funds raised will benefit those who need help due to the coronavirus pandemic. Fagan expressed his gratitude to all who donated.
âI’m really happy knowing that we have completed the 22 miles,â he said. “I am also very happy with the amount of money we have raised⦠and we hope to get even more in the future.”
