Qatar Airways celebrates the opening of the International Kitesurfing Beach Resort

LONDON – This week, Qatar Airways celebrated the opening of Fuwairit Kite Beach Resort, the new world-class destination for kite sports northeast of Doha.

The opening of the new resort was inaugurated by HE Sheikh Dr. Faleh bin Nasser bin Ali Al Thani, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, and HE Mr. Akbar Al Baker, Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive and Chairman from Qatar Tourism.

The event welcomed several VIP guests, top kitesurfing champions and media for an evening of sightseeing and festivities to showcase Fuwairit’s premium features, marking another sporting destination for world travelers entire.

Set on beautiful sandy shores, the resort has several relaxation areas, including a swimming pool, yoga pavilion, outdoor cinema, and state-of-the-art gym. With a total of 50 rooms, the resort offers 40 beachfront rooms, where guests can enjoy the tranquility of a natural lagoon.

To meet the needs of international kitesurfers, a specialist kitesurfing center will be operated by Discover Qatar, the Destination Management Company of Qatar Airways. Packages will also be offered and will include accommodation, kitesurfing lessons, day packages with equipment rental, etc.

During the opening ceremony, dignitaries also had the opportunity to release hawksbill turtles along the pristine shores, as part of the resort’s commitment to preserving the ecosystem that surrounds it.

GKA Kite World Tour

Kite sports are one of the most dynamic and exhilarating new sports, and Qatar’s premier kitesurfing destination is particularly suited to this activity.

With calm, shallow waters, it offers amateurs the perfect space to learn and allows professionals to push their limits and test new skills.

In May 2022, Qatar Airways announced a new long-term partnership with the Global Kitesports Association (GKA) Kite World Tour, becoming the title partner and official airline of the World Tour until 2024. Along with Qatar Tourism, the tourism partner official of the Kite World Tour, the two organizations will host the stages of the GKA World Tour in the new seaside resort in 2023 and 2024.
